Introducing the new measure "Controversy"
Questions can be controversial. How controversial a question is is determined by its degree of controversy.
To calculate the degree of controversy, the difference between positive and negative votes is first subtracted from the total number of votes.
What remains is the absolute number of controversial votes. This absolute value is now divided by the total number of votes to get the percentage of controversial votes. This is the degree of controversy.
This degree of controversy must now be multiplied by a factor so that questions with very few controversial votes are not classified as more controversial than questions with many votes, which have a slightly lower percentage of controversial questions. This factor can be controlled by the value of stretch
in the formula below.
In the end, the formula looks like this:
With a stretch value of 10, I think good results can be obtained.
This new measure "Controversy" should be able to be used
- as a measure for sorting the question list
- as a weighting factor in the topic cloud
